Activision asking to be hacked? Empty
PostSubject: Activision asking to be hacked?   Activision asking to be hacked? EmptyMon 14 May 2012, 11:41

this ought to be fun...

I was reading this article here:
http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/05/12/insider-tells-why-anonymous-might-well-be-the-most-powerful-organization-on-earth/

and this popped up:
"Fox News, on the other hand, has branded the hackers “domestic terrorists,” a role Anonymous has been cast to play in the latest Call of Duty Black Ops II, in which Anonymous appears as the enemy who takes control of unmanned drones in the not-too-distant future. (That creative decision may have put Activision, the creator of the video-game series, at the top of the Anonymous hit list.)"

i wonder how long it will be before they shut down all COD servers...

I wish they would just concentrate on fixing their issues, before creating new ones.... lol!

I highly doubt that Anonymous will shut down the servers because most of the stuff they do is actually for good, it's just the "bad" stuff that gets shown through mass media (you all know what the media are like). They also get the blame for loads of things they weren't even a part of. If they did attack Activision, it wouldn't be through the players.

i agree, usually their intent is to draw awareness to a real world injustice...

they were responsible for shutting down the PSN for two weeks in 2011 (in response to the arrest of a hacker who hacked the PS3's security and published it)

however, i can see that they might view $1 Billion in game sales painting them as the world's worst evil as shot across their bow....

That part I agree with unless Activision proposes some kind of new copyright law.

Sorry Joe but I don't agree with this part Laughing

I think that the problem with Anonymous is that they decide whether something is good or bad. They preach to do the good but I don't see how making financial information of a couple hunderedthousands of people public can be for the good.

I see what you mean there, however Anon is a leaderless organisation. Also Sony said "user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network." However at the time Sony were collecting IP addresses of people that were visiting a blog of someone they were suing at the time. This is an offence against free speech and internet freedom. It was never said that the details were released, just Sony warning about it and then the media blowing it out of proportion.

The main group also denied being involved with the PSN outage. But since it is a leaderless organisation, another group, which claimed to be part of Anon, took the "credit". And anyone can put a file somewhere and call it "Anonymous" and the phrase "We are legion" inside it, or Sony could just make it up.

If you look at Anon's record of "attacks" they have taken down a huge amount of child porn sites, followed wanted criminals before they were even wanted because of certain things they've done on the internet, found out a load of Pro-Kremlin activists earlier this year (which include Vasily Yakemenko, head of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs, Kristina Potupchik, press secretary for Nashi youth movement, and Oleg Khorokhordin, deputy head of the Department for Internal Affairs at the Presidential Administration), and supported "Occupy Nigeria".

Sorry for the essay, but I just hate it when only the bad points are highlighted...

Wrong wrong wrong.....

They weren't responsible.....
It wasn't done in response to the arrest as George was never held, only brought in for questioning.
PS3's security is wrong. It wasn't the security that was compromised. It was Sony's reaction to the potential compromise of GeoHot's custom firmware's ability to play backup games that caused an anonymous group (NOT ANONYMOUS) to attack their website.

They happened to obtain a mass ammount of user data because PSN stored their data in Plain Text.....they had to therefore make someone responsible instantly and anyone who's seen the film "Hackers" will already know that they're always looking for a hacker to blame for any security incident that omits them of any blame.

HACK THE PLANNNNNNNNNEEEEEEETTTTTTT!
